Tell us about your job

How did you get your job?
I began working in the parks field by volunteering, doing internships and working seasonal jobs. I applied and interviewed for a job as a Naturalist at the Bear Branch Nature Center. I worked as a Naturalist for 5 years in the park where I am now. When the position for Park Manager opened it seems as if I was a natural fit for the job.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?
One of the best parts of my job is that no two days are exactly the same. This is a very dynamic job and it never gets boring. The worst part is that often times I have paperwork and business to take care of that keeps me inside!

What is your approximate annual salary range?
$40,000

What perks or other tangible benefits do you get?
Working in a park setting, spending time out of doors, being passionate about my work

What do wish you'd known then that you know now about education after high school?
Get involved in everything you can during college that even remotely interests you, you never know where that might take you! I learned just as much during extra-curricular activities as I did in my classes. Get involved with the community, it makes college even more fun.

#51  Students who participate in extra-curricular activities are 300% more likely to score in the top 25% of math and reading assessment tests.
